LOOKING AHEAD
Treynor Community School Superintendent KEVIN ELWOOD spoke of the challenge of planning for the facilities and staff to teach an expanding population of students. Last school year there were nearly 650 students in the Treynor schools, the total has been increasing annually about 20 students the past few years and this trend is projected forward. ELWOOD discussed the need to expand the Treynor school class room facilities to accommodate the progress of increasing student numbers especially at the junior and senior high levels in the near future. The last expansion of facilities was recently completed at the elementary level. ELWOOD said the school administration and school board are diligently working on plans to expand the junior and senior school capacity to meet the anticipated need. Also, ELWOOD noted, the open outdoor grounds for athletic practice fields, marching band practice, physical education classes, and baseball and softball need to be renovated and expanded. Expansion of parking for school activities is greatly needed. These changes require additional land area, ELWOOD explained, and the school board is considering options. However they are limited by state rules on the bonding capacity to finance physical growth of facilities.
